This week (9-15 February) marks Children's Mental Health Week, with the theme "This is My Place" – focusing on the vital role that belonging plays in children's mental health and wellbeing.
For those of us working in supported living, this theme resonates deeply. We know that stable, appropriate housing isn't just about four walls and a roof – it's about creating spaces where vulnerable children and young people can feel safe, valued, and truly belong.
Many of the young people we support – including care leavers, looked-after children, and those with learning disabilities or mental health needs – have experienced instability and uncertainty. For them, having a place they can genuinely call their own is transformative.
When children feel they belong, they're better able to cope with challenges, build healthy relationships, and believe in their ability to make a difference. Quality supported living accommodation plays a crucial part in creating that foundation.
This Children's Mental Health Week, we're reminded why our work matters. Every property that becomes a supportive home, every partnership between investors and care providers, contributes to giving vulnerable children what they need most – a place where they can say "this is my place."
